Scholarship/Work-Study Guidelines
The Roosevelt Island Theatre Corporation (aka The Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance) nourishes creativity by striving to provide high-quality theatrical and dance training, as well as performing opportunities to everyone in our diverse community. We believe that every person, child or adult, should have the opportunity to participate in the arts, regardless of age, cultural, social, economic or ethnic background. Our programs are supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

We are happy to give work-study/scholarships to those who have the desire to participate in our programs and have demonstrated financial need. There is a mandatory registration fee for all - $15 for individual and $25 for family - as well as a nominal fee of $10 for each course taken.

The following are rules and responsibilities that go along with these work-study/scholarship programs:

  • In order to maintain a work-study scholarship, students are expected to attend all classes and arrive on time. If there are more than (3) unexcused absences, the student will be in jeopardy of losing his/her scholarship for the semester.

  • All work-study/scholarship recipients are required to assist with assigned tasks. If commitments are not met, the student will lose his/her scholarship for the remainder of the semester.

  • All are required to attend scheduled meetings during the year.

  • If any classes are dropped or changed or any difficulties arise regarding a student's program, please advise the teacher as well as the scholarship committee immediately.
In order to be considered for a work-study/scholarship, you must submit the following documentation:

  1. Proof of Income

  2. FAFSA form for all college students

  3. If unemployed, submit State Unemployment documentation

  4. A copy of the Award Letter if you receive PA, SSD, SSI, food stamps, or Medicaid
Because scholarships are limited, they are valuable assets to our students and to our organization. We must treat them as such, which is why we are very serious about these rules.

Workstudy Guidelines

(Acting classes have even stricter rules in the spring during rehearsals, and missing rehearsals can lead to the student being withdrawn from the play(s)).

IF A STUDENT DECIDES TO DROP A CLASS, please inform Mary McCatty by the third week of the class.

If there are any questions regarding this program, contact us.

It should be understood that the registration fee(s) must be paid at registration or the student(s) will not be allowed to attend class(es).
