Debra Orenstein - Dance Instructor
Debra J. Orenstein has been teaching adults and children for over 25 years. She has been teaching at the MST&DA for over a decade. Debra holds a Masters Degree in Education from CUNY Hunter College and a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts for children with a Dance Emphasis from SUNY Brockport

She is also on Dance Faculty at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center and an Early Intervention Specialist with the Lifestart program at Lenox Hill Hospital. She is the Assistant Director of Education for the Isadora Duncan International Institute and a member of the IDII Dance Company.

Debra holds both NY State and NYC permanent teaching licenses in Nursery, Elementary Education and Special Education. She has been a teacher, teacher trainer and mentor (for education and creative arts) with the NYC Dept. of Ed. and The School for Language and Communication Development. Debra has been an adjunct instructor at Queens College and guest instructor at NYU and St. John’s University. She founded the original movement and exercise program for the seniors and disabled on R.I. in the early 1980’s.

In the Princeton area Debra teaches dance, drama, yoga and “Moving Stories.” Debra’s other training includes traditional Hatha Yoga, Foot Reflexology for the Ingrham School, Feldenkrais, Bioenergetics and various massage techniques.

In the NYC and Metro area she has performed at Symphony Space, the 92nd Street Y, NYU, The Ethical Culture School, Turtle Bay School of Music, The Children’s Museum of Manhattan, NYC Making Waves Festival, The Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, The John Drew Theatre in East Hampton, Ryder University, Princeton Arts Council, West Windsor Arts Council, The Egg-Albany. She taught and performed in Russia as a part of the special project “Bringing Back the Lost Art of Isadora Duncan”.

Besides training with the artists of the Duncan Legacy (Julia Levine and Jeanne Bresciani), Debra’s modern training is in Limon, Humphry-Weidman, and Graham. Debra’s modern and jazz teachers included Gus Solomons, Jr., Garth Fagan and Pepsi Bethel. She also has studied at HB Studios.
